China calls on all countries to jointly promote the open and inclusive development of artificial intelligence (AI) for good and for all, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday.

Guo made the remark at a regular press briefing in Beijing, amid media reports that China and the United States may discuss AI security in the coming weeks.

"China has more than once made clear its position on AI. China always believes that all countries should jointly promote the open and inclusive development of AI for good and for all," said Guo.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.3 percent higher at 1,962.84 points on Tuesday.

The STAR 50 Index, which tracks the 50 largest stocks listed on the board that also meet certain liquidity requirements, closed 0.46 percent higher at 1,665.04 points.

The sci-tech innovation board, commonly known as the STAR Market, was inaugurated in June 2019 at Shanghai Stock Exchange. It is designed to support companies in the high-tech and strategic emerging sectors.
