The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:

The Treasury Markets Summit 2026, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Treasury Markets Association (TMA), was held today (September 23) in Hong Kong.

In his keynote address, the Chief Executive of the HKMA and Honorary President of the TMA Council, Mr Eddie Yue, shared his views on the bond market development in Hong Kong. He outlined initiatives to encourage market participation and bond issuance, deepen offshore Renminbi (RMB) liquidity, and modernise market infrastructure with a view to supporting bond market development and promoting digital and cross-border fixed-income activities. Noting the significant opportunities ahead, he called on practitioners to work together to build a diversified, deep, dynamic and digital-native bond market.

The Summit's panels covered three different themes, including the internationalisation of RMB and its associated opportunities, the macroeconomic outlook for treasury markets, and the role of technology in transforming treasury market operations. The panels were moderated by Advisor to Co-Chief Executives of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and the Chair of the TMA Market Development Committee, Mr Justin Chan; the Executive Director (Research) of the HKMA, Mr Zhu Haibin; and the Executive Director (Financial Infrastructure) of the HKMA, Mr Nelson Chow, respectively. They were joined by distinguished guest speakers from the financial industry and relevant sectors.

The Summit was attended by over 300 participants, including treasury market practitioners, asset managers, and senior executives and professionals from banks, financial institutions and corporates.
