Experian Becomes First Personal Finance App Integrated with Google Gemini

Today, Experian, the global data and technology company, and Google announced a strategic collaboration that makes Experian the first personal finance app integrated with Google Gemini, expanding Experian's reach to one of the world's largest AI platforms and creating a new way for consumers to discover, access, and engage with Experian through conversational AI.

Consumers in the United States will be able to connect with Experian in Gemini through a consumer-authorized experience and ask questions about their credit. Existing Experian members can connect their accounts, while consumers who discover Experian through Gemini can join Experian at no cost. They can also access their FICO® credit rating and key factors influencing it.

As AI assistants increasingly become part of how people navigate everyday decisions, Experian is extending trusted financial information into an emerging consumer channel while keeping consumers in control of whether their Experian information is connected and used. The collaboration also creates a new point of discovery for Experian, allowing consumers already using Gemini to connect with Experian, where they can access a broader range of financial products, services, and capabilities through the Experian app or website.

Turning Credit Information into Understanding

Consumers can ask Gemini questions about their Experian credit information and receive personalized responses designed to make that information easier to understand.

For example, a user can ask, “@Experian, what’s my credit rating?” and be prompted to connect directly with Experian to receive their credit rating within the Gemini experience. They can also ask about key factors influencing their credit, giving them additional context about where they stand and what may be affecting their credit profile.

Rather than simply viewing static information, consumers can ask questions in a conversational experience that combines Experian’s trusted credit data with Gemini’s AI capabilities to help make credit information easier to understand.

Consumers who want to view their FICO® Score 8 i will continue to access it directly through the Experian website or app, where they can access a broader range of products, services, and capabilities designed to help them manage their financial lives and find more ways to save time and money.

How It Works

Connecting to Google Gemini’s Connect App ecosystem is designed to be simple, secure, and consumer controlled.

Users sign in to their Google account and open Gemini. From the Personal Intelligence menu, they can navigate to Connected Apps, select Experian, and choose to link and authorize access to their Experian account. Users also have the ability to tag “@Experian” to connect with the Experian app within a chat when asking a credit-related question.

Existing Experian members can authorize access to their Experian account, while consumers who are new to Experian can join at no cost and establish an Experian membership.

After securely authenticating, consumers can ask Gemini questions about their Experian credit information, including their FICO® credit rating and the key factors influencing it. Consumers can manage their connected app settings through Google’s Personal Intelligence settings at any time.

Expanding How Consumers Discover and Access Experian

The collaboration builds on Experian’s long track record of consumer innovation and advances its strategy of giving consumers more ways to engage where they choose.

As consumers increasingly use AI-powered assistants alongside apps, websites, and other digital experiences, Experian is expanding the ways consumers can access and engage with trusted financial information. The collaboration provides a seamless experience for new consumers in the U.S to discover and join Experian at no cost and gives new and existing Experian members another way to connect with the services they know and trust.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — More than a dozen words long used in Bermuda and across the Caribbean got an official nod on Wednesday from the Oxford English Dictionary.

First in line is “bimpert,” a Bermudian word of unknown origin that is used to describe a stupid or foolish person. People on the tiny island in the north Atlantic often use it in this traditional phrase: “A bimpert is justah wuffless bye,” which roughly translates to: an idiot is just a worthless boy.

Another colorful addition is “hornerman,” a word used in the eastern Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago since 1975 to describe an unfaithful man or a man having a relationship with someone else's partner.

If someone in the Caribbean were to find out about such infidelities, they might be known “to get on,” which means to have an emotional outburst or make a scene, or “to cut someone’s tail,” meaning to beat someone.

Depending on the fallout from such infidelities, a woman might need “vex money,” which refers to “money carried or kept in a safe place by a woman, for use in an emergency or in any unexpected eventuality.”

Among other dark words that made the list is “jablesse,” defined as "a malevolent shape-shifting female spirit with one cloven hoof, which at night is said to assume the form of a beautiful woman to lure men to their deaths.” It is derived from “diablesse,” the French word for female demon.

Another supernatural entry is “douen." It is “typically depicted as short in stature, with backward-pointing feet, and wearing a large hat, said to be the spirit of a child who died before it could be baptized, and believed to lure children into the forest by calling their names,” according to the dictionary. It is a variation of the Spanish word “duende,” which means elf.

Several food-related words were included this year: “shadeesh,” the Bermudian word for chorizo; “sugar cake,” made of grated coconut boiled with sugar, water and spices; and “peanut punch,” a wildly popular rich and frothy beverage made with peanuts or peanut butter, milk, sugar and several spices.

In the Caribbean, one might sit down to have a peanut punch with one’s “nana” or “nani,” which are used to address one’s maternal grandparents. In Bermuda, one would sit down to partake with a “hamma,” or friend.

The final Caribbean English words added this year are “Trinbagonian,” which refers to people from both the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, and “canboulay,” which refers to Carnival festivities in Trinidad in the 1800s that celebrated the emancipation of slaves. They stem from a 1700s harvest festival that the British tried to quash, leading to riots reenacted to this day to mark the start of Carnival. Canboulay is derived from “burning cane,” which the dictionary noted was associated with “acts of defiance and rebellion.”

There are some 500,000 words and phrases in the Oxford English Dictionary, which details the history of words, some of which go back to the 11th century.
