Israel said on Wednesday that it had killed Mohammed Abu Alwan, head of Hamas' finance department, in a strike in the southern Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the killing in a joint statement, saying the strike took place in Khan Younis and Israel would continue targeting Hamas commanders, operatives and sources of financing.
No immediate comment from Hamas was available.
At least four people had been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza since dawn, including two in a strike on a vehicle in the south, a woman shot in central Gaza, and another Palestinian in an attack on a displacement camp in Gaza City, said Palestinian medical sources, adding that several others were wounded.
Israeli strikes in Gaza have continued despite an October 2025 ceasefire, with over 1,399 Palestinians killed from then, bringing the death toll since the war began in October 2023 to 73,919, according to Gaza health officials.
