Healthcare workers and patients unite in Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, public hospitals have thoughtfully organised a range of celebratory activities for patients and their carers. While patients may be unable to return home during the festive period, the company of healthcare workers, fellow patients and volunteers ensures that patients can still taste the warmth of togetherness during the festive season.

The healthcare workers of psychiatry at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital recently joined the Hospital Authority Chinese Orchestra to host a concert titled "Melodious Tunes to Welcome Mid-Autumn" within the hospital. Traditional Chinese music followed by a saxophone performance brought a harmonious blend of East and West, delivering festive blessings to mental health recovery patients and their carers.

Cheshire Home, Shatin, also organised a celebration gathering for long-stay residents and their families ahead of the festival. The venue was decorated with lanterns as well as moon and rabbit motifs. The healthcare workers and volunteers presented patients with seasonal fruits, while specially prepared soft mooncakes were individually fed to patients with swallowing difficulties.

Patient volunteers at Tuen Mun Hospital crafted hundreds of delicate snow-skin mooncake ornaments which served as a token of care to patients and visitors, offering the experience of festive joy even within hospital walls. Through these little gifts, the hospital wishes to foster a vibrant festive atmosphere throughout the hospital.

The Hospital Authority wishes members of the public a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival, and all patients a speedy recovery.

CSB recruitment activities in Beijing and Shanghai encourage Hong Kong students studying in Mainland to contribute to Hong Kong

A series of recruitment activities organised by the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) in Shanghai and Beijing concluded successfully today (September 24), enabling Hong Kong people studying or working in the Mainland to learn more about career development opportunities offered by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, and to better prepare themselves for applying for civil service posts.

From September 21 to 24, the CSB held recruitment talks on the Administrative Officer (AO) and Executive Officer (EO) grades at four universities in Shanghai and Beijing. At the talks, the Director of General Grades, Mr Raymond Chan, and the Principal Assistant Secretary for the Civil Service (Administrative Service), Mr Joey Tang, introduced the work, recruitment processes, as well as the training and career development opportunities of the two grades. They encouraged Hong Kong people aspiring to serve the community to apply for posts in the HKSAR Government. The CSB also specially arranged serving AO and EO colleagues who had completed their undergraduate studies at Mainland universities to share their personal journeys and work experiences, with a view to encouraging Hong Kong people who aspire to contribute to the community to join the civil service.

The four recruitment talks were held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, the China University of Political Science and Law and Peking University respectively. Apart from students of these universities, the talks were also attended by Hong Kong students from Tsinghua University, the Renmin University of China and other institutions, including those in their penultimate year of study. The participants showed immense interest in the work of the AO and EO grades and were keen to raise questions about the duties, entry requirements and training opportunities of the respective grades.

As more Hong Kong students choose to pursue studies in the Mainland, the CSB started sending representatives from 2023 to the Mainland to conduct recruitment talks. The number of applicants for HKSAR Government posts who possess Mainland academic qualifications has also increased.

Civil service recruitment has always been conducted under the principle of open and fair competition. In addition to recruiting local graduates, the Government actively seeks to attract talent from diverse backgrounds, including Mainland and overseas graduates as well as members of the working population. The Government has also extended eligibility to apply for civil service posts requiring a bachelor's degree to penultimate-year university students, enabling young people aspiring to join the public service to plan their career development at an earlier stage.

The CSB is currently conducting a joint recruitment exercise for appointment as AO, EO II, Assistant Information Officer (General), Assistant Trade Officer II, Management Services Officer II and Transport Officer II.
