China and the United States reached consensus on multiple economic and trade issues during their latest round of consultations, where the two sides also held their first dialogue on artificial intelligence under the bilateral economic and trade consultation mechanism, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
He Yadong, a spokesman for the ministry, said at a regular news briefing in Beijing that the two countries' economic and trade teams recently held their eighth round of consultations in New York, reaching consensus on several issues.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, who led the Chinese delegation, held the talks with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, head of the U.S. side, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
"Recently, the Chinese and U.S. economic and trade teams held the eighth round of economic and trade consultations in the United States. Guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and upholding the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, the two sides had a candid, in-depth and constructive exchange of views and reached multiple consensuses on economic and trade issues of mutual concern, including implementing the existing consensus of economic and trade consultations, arrangements for reciprocal tariff reductions, establishing a trade council and an investment council, and extending the joint arrangement of the Kuala Lumpur economic and trade consultations. Vice Premier He Lifeng and Treasury Secretary Bessent, as the respective lead officials of China and the United States, held their first dialogue on artificial intelligence under the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism" the spokesman said.
"Going forward, the Chinese side will maintain close communication with the U.S. side on follow-up work under the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism," He said.
