The Government estimated that during the National Day Golden Week of the Mainland, around 1.29 million Mainland visitors will visit Hong Kong, including over 1 180 Mainland inbound tour groups.
Currently, the operation of various major tourist attractions and ancillary services for receiving visitors was generally smooth. During peak hours of crowd flow, manpower and resources have been suitably deployed by various tourist attractions to strengthen services and facilitate crowd management. The HKTB has also launched a dedicated webpage (www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/travel-guide/oct-goldenweek-special-info.html) which provides useful travel information, real-time updates on the waiting time at major attractions (including Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park Hong Kong, the Peak Tram, Ngong Ping 360, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel and the Star Ferry), as well as information on reservations for visiting the High Island Geo Trail-Po Pin Chau Section, to assist visitors and residents in planning their itineraries.
During the Golden Week, the Travel Industry Authority (TIA) will deploy additional manpower and continue to step up inspections at locations frequented by inbound tour groups, including major boundary control points, registered shops, tourist attractions (such as the West Kowloon Cultural District, the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower and the Avenue of Stars), as well as dining premises visited by inbound tour groups, to ensure orderly travel activities of tour groups. The TIA also conducts joint operations with enforcement departments including the Immigration Department to combat illegal tourist guides and tour escorts. The TIA has earlier conducted joint inspection and publicity operations with the Customs and Excise Department in Tsim Sha Tsui and To Kwa Wan. They visited registered shops receiving inbound tour groups in the districts to remind them to strictly comply with relevant regulations and provide visitors with high-quality and fair shopping experiences. The TIA will continue to take stringent action against malpractices such as coerced shopping and adopt a zero-tolerance stance. Visitors may call the TIA's hotline (3698 5900) to report incidents or contact the Police for assistance if they encounter improper treatment.
For the remaining days of the Golden Week holiday, different units will continue to closely communicate and co-ordinate to offer visitors a high-quality experience.

Hong Kong Customs on September 29 and yesterday (September 30) detected three drug trafficking cases involving incoming air passengers at Hong Kong International Airport, and seized a total of about 46 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds and a batch of products containing suspected Part I poisons, with a total estimated market value of about $9.2 million. Two men and three women were arrested.
In the first case, a 32-year-old Filipino male passenger and two Filipino female passengers, aged 24 and 31, arrived in Hong Kong from Bangkok, Thailand, on September 29. During customs clearance, Customs officer found a total of about 35kg of suspected cannabis buds inside their check-in suitcases, and a batch of products containing suspected Part I poisons inside the baggage of the two female passengers. They were then arrested.
In the second case, a 40-year-old Mainland male passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, yesterday. During customs clearance, Customs officers found about 6kg of suspected cannabis buds inside his check-in suitcases. He was subsequently arrested.
In the third case, a 47-year-old Mainland female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, yesterday. During customs clearance, Customs officers found about 5kg of suspected cannabis buds inside her check-in suitcases. She was subsequently arrested.
Investigations of the three cases are ongoing.
Customs will continue to step up enforcement against drug trafficking activities through intelligence analysis. The department also reminds members of the public to stay alert and not to participate in drug trafficking activities for monetary return. They must not accept hiring or delegation from another party to carry controlled items into and out of Hong Kong. They are also reminded not to carry unknown items for other people.
Customs will continue to apply a risk assessment approach and focus on selecting passengers from high-risk regions for clearance to combat transnational drug trafficking activities.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
Under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, any person who possesses any poison included in Part 1 of the Poisons List other than in accordance with provisions commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for two years.
