New NCCN Guidelines for Pediatric Bone Sarcoma focus on how to provide the best care possible for children and adolescents with Ewing sarcoma.
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) published the first-ever edition of NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) for Pediatric Bone Sarcoma.
"I know what these guidelines will mean to patients and their families," said Paula Head, patient advocate on the NCCN Guidelines® Panel for Pediatric Bone Sarcoma. "Families who are walking that journey, need clear, accurate medical roadmaps that reduce anxiety, and bring confidence in the care their child is receiving. As a parent who experienced this with my daughter, I wanted there to be guidelines that are specifically for pediatrics, because these cancers and their treatments are different than for adults."
NCCN's evidence-based, expert consensus-driven recommendations for prevention, screening, treatment, and supportive care are relied on by care providers around the world. The guidelines provide a roadmap for making optimal treatment decisions, putting guardrails in place against over- or under-treatment.
All NCCN Guidelines are available for free at NCCN.org or via the Virtual Library of NCCN Guidelines® App.
NCCN has added several pediatric cancer guidelines to its robust library during the last few years, including:
- Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
- Pediatric Aggressive Mature B-Cell Lymphomas
- Pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma
- Wilms Tumor
- Pediatric Central Nervous System Cancers
- Pediatric Soft Tissue Sarcoma
The new NCCN Guidelines for Pediatric Bone Sarcoma is focused on a type of cancer called Ewing sarcoma and other undifferentiated round cell sarcomas. While extraordinarily rare overall, it is the second most common primary bone tumor affecting children and adolescents. It typically impacts teenagers between the ages of 15-191, and can present as severe and persistent pain or swelling in the limbs or pelvis. Those symptoms are also common to other teen bone issues, so x-rays are a key first step in the diagnostic process.
"Teenagers are at a unique point in their lives. Intensive cancer treatment can drain their energy and disrupt their developing sense of autonomy," explained Patrick Leavey, MD, UT Southwestern Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, Chair of the NCCN Guidelines Panel for Pediatric Bone Sarcoma. "These guidelines can help ensure they are not alone; that they know they have a knowledgeable team ready to support them."
Dr. Leavey noted the importance of clinical trials for advancing new treatments. The extreme rarity of Ewing's sarcoma can make it difficult to achieve therapeutic advances. However, there have been significant improvements on the topic of risk stratification in recent years.
Currently, the 5-year survival rate for Ewing sarcoma when diagnosed at an early stage is 81%, though that drops to 41% for metastatic disease2. Speaking of the toll Ewing sarcoma takes on teens and other young people, Paula Head concluded: "Whether it's one or 101, whatever that number is, it's too many."

A Formidable Type of Childhood Cancer Gets Added to Highly Regarded Library of Treatment Recommendations
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Momcozy, a leading global brand supporting women and families through pregnancy and motherhood, has partnered with Postpartum Support International (PSI) to establish a $100,000 scholarship fund designed to expand access to professional perinatal mental health training for frontline healthcare providers.
Through the Momcozy × PSI Scholarship Fund, 50 U.S.-based healthcare professionals will receive full scholarships covering 100% of the coursework and examination fees associated with the Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C). A portion of the scholarships will be dedicated to eligible midwives and nurses within the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) network, with a focus on clinicians serving communities where access to maternal mental health resources is limited.
The initiative reflects a shared commitment from Momcozy and PSI to strengthen the network of trained professionals equipped to identify, support, and respond to perinatal mental health needs in communities across the United States.
"At Momcozy, we believe that every parent, no matter where they live, deserves access to compassionate, professional mental health support," said Athena, Founder and CEO of Momcozy. "This partnership with PSI is a meaningful step toward building a healthier future for families by investing in the clinicians who are there to support them. By helping remove the financial barriers to specialized training, we hope to empower more professionals to bring critical perinatal mental health resources directly into their communities."
"Experiencing a perinatal mental health disorder is stressful, and many people experience fear, shame, or embarrassment. It can be difficult to find a place where you know providers will understand," said Wendy Davis, PhD, PMH-C, President and CEO of Postpartum Support International. "We are thrilled that Momcozy is making the PMH-C certification more accessible to providers via scholarship. The PMH-C makes it easier for affected parents to choose a provider they know will help them get better, and Momcozy is helping us grow the number of trained providers ready to help."
The scholarship program is open to US based licensed healthcare providers who are currently practicing in or serving underrepresented communities or areas identified as maternal mental health resource deserts.
Applications open on October 1 and close on October 31. Applicants will be evaluated based on their professional background, experience serving high-need communities, and their completed application form. The selection process will be conducted according to the program's published eligibility and selection criteria, and selected scholarship recipients will be announced on November 6.
Healthcare professionals interested in applying can learn more about the Momcozy × PSI Scholarship Fund and submit an application at momcozy-care-program. The scholarship is part of Momcozy's broader commitment to expanding access to practical, professional support for mothers across the pregnancy and postpartum journey.
