ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) — Adrian Meronk caught up quickly and pulled ahead on the mistakes of Casey Jarvis to win the Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday with a 4-under 68, giving the 33-year-old from Poland a full card on the European tour when he desperately needed it.
Meronk was the tour player of the year in 2023 when he was left off the Ryder Cup team in Rome, and then defected to LIV Golf the following year. He was among eight players who accepted a deal from the European tour earlier this year that allowed him to keep his membership.
The two-shot victory at St. Andrews, his fifth title on the European tour and perhaps the most important, gives him a full European card for 2027. That's important with so much in doubt at LIV Golf as it goes through Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Victory was not secure until Jarvis failed to hole out for eagle from the Valley of Sin on the 18th at the Old Course.
“I never usually cry, but this one feels really special,” Meronk said. “I'm lost for words. I'm extremely happy and quite relieved.”
He opened with three birdies in five holes to make up a two-shot deficit on Jarvis, the South African going for his third European tour title this year.
Jarvis still had a one-shot lead and was in prime position on the short par-4 ninth. His pitch was 15 feet below the hole for birdie. But he ran it by 4 feet and wound up three-putting for a shocking bogey, leaving him tied.
On the par-3 11th, Jarvis came up short of the green and played it smartly with a high pitch beyond the flag to take the slope back toward the hole. But it was too much spin, aided by the wind, and rolled all the way back off the green leading to another bogey.
Meronk holed an 8-foot birdie putt ahead of him on the 12th, and suddenly his lead was two shots. He stretched the lead to three shots with a superb pitch-and-run to 2 feet for birdie on the par-5 14th, and a bogey on the Road Hole at the 17th did him no harm.
Jarvis, who made a 30-foot putt from just short of the 15th green to stay in the game, lost all hope when he missed the green well left on the 17th, putted to 6 feet and missed the par putt. He closed with a 72 and tied for second with Niklas Norgaard (68), whose amateur partner was outgoing PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.
Michael Stewart capped off a dream week with a 66, which included a stretch on the back nine when he made a 25-foot birdie on the 11th, a 30-foot birdie on the 12th and then holed out from 112 yards for eagle on the 13th. He tied for fourth with Tommy Fleetwood (64).
Stewart, the No. 979 player in the world, was playing a Tartan Pro Tour event on Wednesday. He said he would return to the Tartan — he would be eligible for the Spanish Open next week — to make sure he has status somewhere in 2027.
He is second on the Tartan Pro Tour points list. To win would give him a card on the Challenge Tour.

LONDON (AP) — Jonathan Taylor rushed for two touchdowns and Colts quarterback Daniel Jones ran one in and Indianapolis beat Washington 30-13 after the Commanders lost yet another quarterback to injury on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Marcus Mariota, who was starting in place of the injured Jayden Daniels, left the game after Washington’s second drive because of a knee injury. The veteran quarterback was sacked and didn’t return for the Commanders (1-3).
Third-string rookie quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis threw his first NFL touchdown pass to cut Indy's lead to 17-13 in the third quarter, but the Colts (2-2) answered with Spencer Shrader's 52-yard field goal and Jones' 4-yard run early in the fourth quarter.
Taylor rushed for 95 yards on 20 carries as the Colts overcame two turnovers from Jones, who completed 19 of 34 passes for 134 yards with an interception and a fumble.
Kaliakmanis threw a costly interception early in the third quarter and the Colts quickly capitalized. Linebacker Jaylon Carlies picked off Kaliakmanis' pass at the Washington 27 and returned it to the 20. Taylor’s second 5-yard run of the game made it 17-6.
Kaliakmanis bounced back on the next drive, though, hitting Treylon Burks on a 47-yard touchdown pass that closed the gap to 17-13. Burks got past cornerback Sauce Gardner and found space before hauling in the deep ball.
Shrader later added a 44-yard field goal — his third of the game — to extend Indy's lead to 30-13.
Kaliakmanis completed 15 of 33 passes for 186 yards with one touchdown and the interception.
The Colts led 10-6 at halftime after Taylor's first 5-yard touchdown run — which he celebrating by pantomiming drinking tea — and then Shrader’s 48-yard field goal.
The Commanders failed to capitalize on two red zone opportunities in the first quarter, settling for field goals.
Odafe Oweh drove Colts left tackle Bernhard Raimann backward into Jones causing the quarterback to fumble on Indy's first drive. Oweh then recovered it at the 21. The Commanders had fourth-and-2 from the 13 but opted for Drew Stevens' 31-yarder.
Washington then stalled at the Colts 5 on their next drive. On third down, Mariota was sacked at the 11 by Adetomiwa Adebawore and Laiatu Latu. Mariota walked off gingerly to the sideline, and another Stevens field goal made it 6-0, but the quarterback didn't return.
Attendance was 60,907 for the 13th NFL game played at Tottenham. The league had recently reduced remaining ticket prices to 79 pounds ($105) including for some high-end seats. Attendance has never been below 60,000 in previous games. The venue opened in 2019 and features an NFL field below the Premier League team’s moveable soccer pitch. It was 70 degrees Fahrenheit at kickoff.
Colts: LT Bernhard Raimann was hurt early in the third quarter.
Commanders: In addition to Mariota, WR Jaylin Lane was evaluated for a concussion ... DE Charles Omenihu had a groin problem... S Tyler Owens left with a hamstring injury.
Colts: at Pittsburgh next Sunday.
Commanders: host New York Giants next Sunday.
