A lesser-known county in northern China's Hebei Province is promoting its distinctive holiday experience of enjoying autumn scenery and bathing in natural hot springs during the seven-day National Day holiday to attract tourists from neighboring Beijing and Tianjin.

At a hot spring resort in Longhua County in Chengde City, crowds of visitors flocked to admire the stunning autumn landscape. The resort’s rooftop infinity pool offers sweeping views, allowing guests to take photos and soak in the panoramic autumn colors across the mountains.

Visitors can also pick fruits and vegetables and taste authentic farmhouse cuisine at this resort. With its comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, the resort is especially popular among young and middle-aged tourists

The resort's success showcases Longhua County's winning tourism strategy of tapping more into its ecological resources.

As China celebrated its 77th founding anniversary on Thursday, cities and regions are launching dynamic tourism campaigns to attract more visitors during the annual "Golden Week" holiday, which runs through Oct 7.

China recorded over 300 million cross-regional passenger trips on Sunday, the fourth day of the week-long National Day holiday, signaling sustained appetite for domestic travel during official breaks.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the total volume reached 305.39 million trips, up 0.6 percent from the previous day and marking a 1.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Railway transport saw a significant surge, handling 20.32 million passenger trips. This represents a 5.4-percent day-on-day increase and a robust 10.8-percent jump compared to 2025.

Highway travel remained the dominant mode of transport, accounting for 280.92 million trips and driven largely by self-driving tours.

The waterway passenger volume stood at 1.828 million, while civil aviation handled 2.323 million trips.

As the holiday is nearing its end, transport authorities across the country are ramping up efforts to manage the massive return travel rush.

Local transportation departments are coordinating with railway operators to add extra train services and are extending subway operating hours to accommodate late-night arrivals.

Authorities have also increased bus shuttle services connecting major train stations, airports, and urban centers to ensure a smooth and efficient journey for returning travelers.
