The first Chinese Auto Expo wrapped up Sunday in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after drawing over 30,000 visitors in three days, with many expressing keen interest in the quality, innovation, and new energy performance of Chinese-made cars.

The expo featured four exhibition halls covering over 13,000 square meters, with more than 100 models from 26 Chinese brands on display, showcasing China's latest achievements in vehicle electrification and intelligent technologies.

Many visitors said Chinese-brand cars exceed their expectations.

"In terms of quality, technology, and design, they've really changed a lot. I think they've made progress. In my view, the industry today is paying more and more attention to how Chinese brands are performing," said Cristian Sanchez, a visitor.

According to organizers, among the more than 100 models on display, 15 new models made their debut in the South American market.

Organizers said that Chinese auto brands have developed rapidly in new energy vehicle technology in recent years, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid models proving particularly popular among Argentine consumers.

"I'm impressed. I see many Chinese entering this new market. It's remarkable, and I hope we can keep moving forward," said another visitor Julieta Ledesma.

"The entry of Chinese brands is a huge boon for Argentine car consumers. The market is expanding, prices are more competitive, and quality is quite solid," said Hugo Belcastro, secretary-general of the Argentine association of automobile importers and dealers.

Chinese automakers now hold around 10 percent of the Argentine market, according to the association.

Industry insiders said that since the Argentine government launched a zero-tariff preferential import mechanism in 2025, Chinese-made vehicles, especially electric vehicles, have entered Argentina's market at a faster pace. As more Chinese automakers build factories in Latin America, their market share is expected to grow further.

China's 16th Arctic Ocean expedition is well underway, with the first-ever joint deployment of four vessels of ice breakers Xuelong and Xuelong 2, as well as research vessels Jidi and Tansuo 3, to enhance comprehensive environmental survey capability in the Arctic high seas.

The expedition is the first Arctic mission organized by China in 2026. With global warming intensifying and the Arctic temperatures rising by nearly four times the global average, investigations on the rapid and drastic changes in the Arctic natural environment carries global significance and international impact, and the four-ship formation allows more comprehensive research efforts covering multiple sectors.

"In previous years, we basically used one ship for expeditions. With four ships, the 16th expedition mainly covers ocean surveys, ice station surveys, and manned deep diving," said He Jianfeng, chief scientist of the expedition.

Because the atmosphere, sea ice and marine ecosystem feed back on one another, only synchronized, multi-sphere observations can capture the full picture of Arctic change. The multi-ship formation has greatly expanded the observation range in the Arctic Ocean, enabling simultaneous measurements at multiple positions to more precisely assess the underlying patterns of rapid Arctic climate change.

"The four-vessel deployment can greatly improve the breadth and depth of the overall survey. The entire Arctic Ocean is very vast. In the past, relying on a single ship, the surveyed area was relatively limited, and the parameters were also relatively limited," He said.

Xuelong and Xuelong 2 have so far completed their missions and returned to Shanghai, while Jidi and Tansuo 3 still remain on expedition and are expected to return in mid-October after a three-month mission.
