Chinese mainland blasts Taiwan authorities' separatist rhetoric regarding history

A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan, saying they had distorted history and hyped separatist rhetoric based on a warped version of history.

"The DPP authorities have clung stubbornly to the separatist position for Taiwan secession, unscrupulously distorted history, and hyped separatist rhetoric based on a warped version of history. They fawned over Japan and its colonial rule, which makes them sinners against history," said Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, when responding to a media question on Taiwan authorities' and Lai Ching-te's remarks regarding the history of World War II.

"History is a mirror that exposes demons. The rhetoric on history revealed the DPP authorities' attempts to distort national identity, sever the historical connection between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and incite cross-Strait confrontation. It also revealed the DPP authorities' anti-China and resiting-China intentions, showing their ignorance of history and betrayal of the ancestors and the nation," said the spokesman.

The victory of the war and the recovery of Taiwan from Japanese occupation are great victories achieved by the Chinese people, including those in Taiwan, at the cost of blood and lives, Chen noted.

Taiwan's liberation from the shackles of Japan's colonial rule and its return to the motherland represent an important outcome of the Chinese people's victory in fighting Japanese aggressors, and form an integral part of the post-World War II international order, Chen said.

It's a historical memory the Chinese people across the Taiwan Strait should never forget, said Chen.

Chen urged compatriots in Taiwan to see the true face of the DPP authorities and stand on the right side of history.

"We hope that compatriots in Taiwan will see through the deceptive and harmful nature of the DPP authorities' provocation for seeking Taiwan secession, stand on the right side of history, safeguard the overall interests of the Chinese nation, adhere to correct understanding of our history, nation and country, resolutely oppose Taiwan separatist activities, firmly safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and contribute to advancing the great cause of national reunification," he said.

The first joint training exercise between the Chinese and Pakistani armies entered the skills-training stage on Thursday in Korla, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Codenamed Karakoram 2026, the training endeavor kicked off on Wednesday to focus on joint counter-terrorism operations in high-altitude areas.

The drill includes skills training in UAV operation, on-the-move target search and firing, and long-range sniping, and covers joint command and live-force exercises.

At the climbing training grounds, Chinese officers and soldiers demonstrated basic drills including rope climbing, downhill, and simulated rock climbing to their Pakistani counterparts.

"The assessment standard for rope climbing is that in actual operation, or during combat, it is considered excellent to finish within 15 seconds, and good within 20 seconds," said Liu Hongwei of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Xinjiang Military Command.

The joint training exercise aims to help the two sides deepen cooperation and strengthen interoperability in counter-terrorism efforts.
