More than 11,000 exhibitors are specialized manufacturers or leaders in niche markets. Nearly two-thirds of participating companies have adopted technologies such as artificial intelligence and the industrial internet.

New products make up 23.2 percent of exhibits while green products account for 26 percent, both record shares. The fair is set to host more than 700 product launch events, with the number of products to be unveiled rising 15 percent.

Advanced manufacturing takes center stage in the first phase, which runs through Oct. 19.

More than 12,000 companies are exhibiting across 520,000 square meters, with over 25,000 booths in 19 exhibition areas covering products including electronics, home appliances and industrial automation. Seventeen dedicated sections showcase emerging industries such as service robots, drones and display technologies.

The influx of buyers is also expected to boost traffic at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

Border inspection authorities forecast more than 1.2 million international passenger movements during the fair, up 13.6 percent from a year earlier, and more than 6,500 international flight movements, up 17.6 percent.

The airport has added dedicated immigration lanes, multilingual service counters and volunteer support to help visitors clear border checks.

The U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) accelerated in September as surging energy costs drove inflation up 3.7 percent from a year earlier, according to official data released Wednesday.

U.S. CPI grew 0.6 percent month on month and 3.7 percent year on year in September, up from 0.4 percent and 3.4 percent in August, respectively.

Headline inflation increased by 0.6 percent month on month, driven primarily by a 9.1 percent surge in gasoline prices, according to the data. Meanwhile, the food price index rose 0.1 percent month-over-month in September, matching the increase in August.

Core CPI, which strips out volatile food and energy costs, also ticked up 0.3 percent over the previous month, climbing 2.6 percent year on year.

Price increases for shelter, car repairs, education, airline fares, medical services and apparel rose at a time when Americans have been reeling from price hikes since inflation took hold in 2021.

The news caused markets to drop Wednesday on fears that a rate cut is even further off than investors had expected. Some experts said the Fed would have to raise rates to get inflation down.
