“Fi Ultra was built on a simple belief: a dog’s freedom shouldn’t end where the cell signal does,” said Jonathan Bensamoun, co-founder and CEO of Fi. “Becoming the first company to leverage T-Satellite with Starlink was a major milestone for our team and a testament to what’s possible when ambitious engineering meets a clear mission. Being recognized as one of TIME’s Best Inventions is an incredible honor and a reflection of the work our teams across hardware, engineering, product, design, and brand have put into pushing the boundaries of pet technology and strengthening the human-animal bond.”

To compile this year’s list, TIME solicited nominations from TIME editors and correspondents worldwide and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields such as healthcare and AI. TIME then evaluated each contender on key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.

Launched in July 2026, Fi Ultra solves the biggest limitation of traditional GPS trackers: the moment a dog moves beyond a cell tower’s reach, owners lose visibility. By integrating T-Satellite with Starlink directly into the device, Fi Ultra uses Low Earth Orbit satellites to keep dogs trackable nearly anywhere in the U.S., including areas with no cellular coverage.

Fi Ultra sets itself apart with features including:

Fi Ultra joins Fi’s lineup of smart pet wearables, which includes Series 3+, the world’s most powerful GPS and health tracker with up to three months of battery life, and Fi Mini, the world’s smallest and lightest tracker for dogs and cats. Together, Fi’s devices track your pet’s location, health, and habits, helping them live their safest, healthiest, and most adventurous lives.

OSLO, Norway (AP) — Skiing standout Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has ruptured his Achilles tendon during a fall in preseason downhill training in Chile, the Norwegian Ski Association announced Thursday.

“Aleksander is now travelling home to Innsbruck (his base in Austria) for further medical examinations and assessment of treatment options with his trusted medical team,” the association said in a statement, adding that the crash occurred on Wednesday.

“We will provide an update once more information is available regarding the next steps.”

Kilde was still working his way back after a severe fall in January 2024. He underwent surgery for a severe cut and nerve damage in his right calf and two torn ligaments in his shoulder, after crashing in sight of the finish at the classic Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen, Switzerland.

He returned to the World Cup last season but opted not to compete at the Milan Cortina Olympics, saying in February that “my mind and body are not performing the way I need them to.”

Kilde won the silver medal in combined and bronze in super-G at the 2022 Beijing Games.

He was also the overall World Cup champion in 2020.

The World Cup season opens with women's and men's giant slaloms on the Rettenbach glacier in Sölden, Austria, Oct. 24-25.
