China will continue working with the international community to advance global poverty reduction and related cooperation, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Friday, ahead of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
While eradicating global poverty remains a shared determination for all people, economic stagnation and geopolitical confrontation pose major challenges. A recent report by the United Nations Development Programme and the University of Oxford found that 1.2 billion people still live in multidimensional poverty.
Responding to recent comments that China has contributed a lot to global poverty alleviation and that China's experience benefits Global South countries, Mao pledged continued international cooperation.
"China has historically eliminated absolute poverty and achieved the poverty reduction target of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule. The achievement demonstrates China's practical action centered on the people, a commitment to their well-being under the principle of 'leaving no one behind', and the striving spirit of fulfilling a long-term blueprint to the end," Mao said.
"Poverty eradication is a common ideal for all humanity. If China can succeed, other countries can succeed as well. China has been actively promoting poverty reduction cooperation, and made it the priority of the eight key cooperation areas under the Global Development Initiative. Through sharing technologies like Juncao and hybrid rice, China has helped Global South countries strengthen development resilience and has dispatched thousands of experts for technical assistance. China also initiated the Global Alliance for Poverty Reduction and Development, turning its practical experience into replicable international public goods. China will continue to work with the international community to promote poverty reduction cooperation, and advance the poverty reduction process for common development," Mao said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the need to unswervingly follow the path of prioritizing ecological conservation and pursuing green development.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, placed the emphasis during an inspection trip on Friday to the city of Ulanqab, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
Xi urged efforts to coordinate high-quality development and high-standard environmental protection, take a holistic and systematic approach to the conservation and improvement of the ecosystems of mountains, waters, forests, farmland, lakes, grassland and deserts, and promote carbon emission reduction, pollution reduction, enlargement of green belts and economic growth in a coordinated way, resolutely taking the path of prioritizing ecological conservation and green development.
At the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi learned about Inner Mongolia's work on strengthening ecological environment protection. He called for further endeavor on respecting, adapting to and protecting nature, fully implementing the Wetlands Conservation Law, strictly enforcing ecological conservation redlines, and enhancing the quality and stability of ecosystems.
At a local hi-tech development zone, Xi visited an exhibition on advancing construction of hub nodes for the "East Data, West Computing" project and the development of green computing. Xi stressed strengthening scientific planning and security guarantee in furthering the construction, while promoting in-depth integration of the digital economy and real economy.
Xi also watched a display of local agricultural and livestock specialties. He encouraged local authorities to boost the connection between production and marketing to help increase the residents' incomes.
During the inspection, Xi also said that different regions in China should fully and faithfully apply the new development philosophy on all fronts, and make progresses in high-quality development based on local conditions.
