Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Wednesday that China and Russia have in recent years stood side by side and moved forward together amid a complex and turbulent international landscape.

Co-chairing the 31st regular meeting between Chinese and Russian heads of government with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in St. Petersburg, Li said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China and Russia have leveraged more dynamic and resilient cooperation to cushion against external uncertainties and instability, with bilateral cooperation continuing to broaden and grow ever more steady.

At present, he added, the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era has entered a new stage marked by greater achievements and faster development.

China stands ready to work with Russia in the spirit of mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation to deepen and substantiate cooperation across various fields, better translate the important consensus reached by the two heads of state into concrete actions and tangible outcomes, better serve the development and revitalization of both countries, and bring greater benefits to the two peoples, Li said.

For his part, Mishustin said that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era is currently at its highest level in history, setting a model for relations between nations. Despite uncertainties in the international landscape, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries maintains strong momentum.

Russia is willing to work with China -- based on the principles of mutual benefit, mutual respect, and good-neighborly friendship -- to further strengthen practical cooperation across all sectors and safeguard the common interests of both nations, Mishustin said.

Li and Mishustin listened to work reports from representatives of both sides and expressed their full affirmation. The two sides emphasized that the important consensus reached by the two heads of state should serve as the fundamental guide for advancing cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, investment, energy, resources, and connectivity, as well as in fostering new growth drivers in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence.

They also underscored the importance of jointly hosting the China-Russia Years of Education (2026-2027), strengthening people-to-people exchanges, invigorating sub-national cooperation, and deepening multilateral coordination to drive more practical outcomes.

Following the meeting, the two leaders signed a joint communique and a series of cooperation documents covering economy and trade, aerospace, science and technology, and education.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Wednesday that a tanker exporting Russian diesel to the United States, the first since President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. had agreed a diesel supply deal with Russia, would set sail on Thursday.

Novak said that Moscow and Washington are in the final stage of signing contracts for further diesel supplies.

He expressed optimism that Russia could supply diesel to countries other than the United States by the end of this year and fully restore its diesel export volumes.

Novak also said the damaged Nord Stream gas pipelines are technically repairable.
