The Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE) has launched a new video series inviting incoming talents to share their journeys of settling in Hong Kong. Adam originally planned only a short-term internship in the city. Yet within just one week, he was so captivated by Hong Kong’s prosperity, efficiency and safety that he decided to put down roots here. Today, Hong Kong’s familiar common law system allows his expertise to dovetail seamlessly with local practice, while the city’s deep connections to the Mainland open up vast business opportunities, enabling him, early in his career, to take part in cross-regional projects and accelerate his professional growth. "In Hong Kong," he noted, "you sit in your office handling matters for Asian clients, yet the project impact can reach as far as Europe or even the world."

Since arriving, Adam has taken weekly Chinese classes, seizing every opportunity to practise writing and speaking Cantonese and Mandarin. He has just passed HSK Level 4 (the Chinese Proficiency Test). With a genuine love for Hong Kong's languages and cultures, Adam would boldly strike up conversations in Chinese with local friends, cha chaan teng owners, or even clients. He is also struck by Hong Kong’s "city-out, nature-in" lifestyle: after work, he finds himself immediately surrounded by mountains and sea. With friends and colleagues helping him integrate into local life, he sees Hong Kong not merely as a place to work, but as a warm home.

Originally from Kazakhstan, a Belt and Road country, Mukhit holds a medical background and a PhD from the U.K. He moved to Hong Kong in 2021. Describing himself as a workaholic, he says Hong Kong offers all four advantages he was looking for: research, clinical application, entrepreneurship, and international networks.

Supported by Hong Kong’s comprehensive innovation and technology ecosystem, he founded Entoptica, integrating quantum technology into vision science. The company has developed SLOPE (Structured Light Observation and Perception Evaluation), a first-of-its-kind portable device that provides rapid, non-invasive screening for early-stage macular degeneration. The innovation has won multiple local and international awards. Mukhit has founded three companies in Hong Kong and says that in the city, "you don’t have to choose between being a scientist and an entrepreneur." His wife, who works at the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong, has also drawn him out of the laboratory to discover hidden beaches and street food, as he builds a “golden decade” for both career and life in the city.
