The rare footage of a family of three snow leopards, including a cub playing with a stick, was released recently after being captured by infrared cameras at the Helan Mountain National Nature Reserve in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The footage shows the three snow leopards briefly appeared together on a rocky hillside before the male walked off into the distance. In another clip, the cub played with a stick, walking around and occasionally lying down, while the female watched nearby.
"The cub is now almost the same size as an adult leopard. It is nearly one and a half years old and has adapted very well to the Helan Mountain environment. It is growing up very healthily," said a staff member of the administration bureau of the Helan Mountain National Nature Reserve.
The snow leopard is a first-class nationally protected wild animal in China, and its survival is an important indicator of the health of high-altitude ecosystems.
To protect its habitat, the reserve has continued to track individual snow leopards through field patrols and infrared camera inspections, accumulating rich data for species protection and scientific research.
To date, five individual snow leopards have been monitored in the reserve.

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy warned Sunday that the Gaza ceasefire remained fragile and called for full implementation of a UN Security Council resolution on the Palestinian territory, according to an Arab League statement.
Fahmy made the remarks during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, where the two discussed the Palestinian issue and other regional conflicts.
Fahmy said more than 1,500 Palestinians had been killed since the ceasefire took effect in Oct 2025, warning that developments in Gaza were testing the credibility of the international system.
He stressed the need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2803, preserve the unity of the occupied Palestinian territory, and support the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East and its mandate, the statement said.
Fahmy also expressed the Arab League's rejection of attacks on Arab countries, citing Iranian attacks on neighboring Arab states and Houthi attacks on airports and civilian facilities.
He reaffirmed the league's solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its right to defend its security and sovereignty, and called for safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz.
The talks also covered developments in Lebanon, Sudan, Syria and Libya, with both sides underscoring the importance of their unity, sovereignty and national institutions, according to the statement.
For his part, Guterres reaffirmed his commitment to international law and the UN Charter, saying the UN would continue coordinating with the league and supporting its efforts to address regional and international challenges.
Guterres is visiting Cairo as part of a regional tour, the statement said.
