China's emerging marine industries achieved significant results in fostering new growth drivers in the first three quarters this year.
Since the beginning of this year, China's competitiveness in offshore engineering equipment manufacturing has continued to improve.
In the first three quarters, the country received new offshore engineering equipment orders worth 20.1 billion U.S. dollars, up 123.3 percent year on year, accounting for 83.8 percent of the global market share.
In the first nine months, China accelerated large-scale development of marine energy.
The 10-kilowatt oscillating-water-column wave-energy power generation device "Dongbo-1," independently developed by Dongfang Electric Corporation, reached a domestically leading level and secured its first market order, marking a key step from single-prototype validation to integrated demonstration with a wind farm.
In the Jan.-Sept. period, China made progress in building marine sci-tech innovation platforms and mechanisms.
China's largest seawater desalination testing facility entered operation in Tianjin Municipality, accelerating the maturation and iteration of new seawater desalination technologies, equipment, and products.
China's first dedicated intelligent element supply platform for the marine industry—the Marine Token Factory—was officially launched in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, in eastern China in September.
The platform provides relevant entities with services covering data processing, computing power, and large language models.
It offers more than 130 categories of marine-related data, including offshore operation standards and environmental elements. It contains more than 20 large language models specifically for the marine field and more than 30 general large language models.
"In the first three quarters, China's marine economy achieved steady growth, with its structure continuously optimized and resilience further shown. Next, we will adhere to high-quality development, accelerate the cultivation of new quality productive forces in the marine sector, and promote further enhancement of the resilience and vitality of the 'blue engine'," said Meng Qinglei, deputy head of the Department of Marine Strategic Planning and Economics under the Ministry of Natural Resources.
