The 17th Cross-Strait (Xiamen) Cultural Industries Fair opened in Xiamen City of east China's Fujian Province on Thursday, with the participation of over 1,000 institutions from around the world.

Spanning 60,000 square meters, the main venue of the four-day event features five themed areas: Fujian-Taiwan cultural exchange, intangible cultural heritage, youth creative design, technology plus tourism, and cross-Strait cultural tourism consumption, serving as a comprehensive platform for exhibition, exchange and cooperation.

Over the years, the event has become a vital bridge for cultural exchange and industrial cooperation across the Taiwan Strait, with more than 6,700 institutions in Taiwan having taken part in it.

"I hope it will serve as a platform for cross-Strait youth exchanges. When we come here to attend the fair, many manufacturers in Taiwan would send representatives here, and they would cooperate with young artists here," said Lin Baichen, curator of the fair's youth creative design area.

During the fair, more than 100 side events will be held, including business matchmaking activities and exchange events for young people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to strengthen the bonds of kinship between the two sides, promote integrated cross-Strait development in culture, and advance high-quality development of the cultural industry.

The fair is scheduled to run from Oct 29 to November 1.

Trade between the nine mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries hit a record 5.58 trillion yuan (around 837 billion U.S. dollars) during the first three quarters of 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 26.7 percent, according to the latest customs data.

High-end manufactured goods, including machinery, electronic goods and integrated circuits, along with green products, were the main drivers of this growth.

The nine major cities in the GBA are Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province. Together with the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, these cities form one of China's most dynamic economic hubs.
