Building a Cyber-Ready Workforce in Singapore: SIM Academy Shares A Business Guide to Developing Talent

2026-11-02 09:00 Last Updated At:09:06

SINGAPORE - Media OutReach Newswire – 2 November 2026 - As companies expand their use of cloud platforms, digital payments, artificial intelligence and connected systems, cyber risk has become a business issue involving operations, compliance, finance, customer trust and corporate reputation.

Cybersecurity has become a growing necessity

As organisations face increasingly sophisticated cyberthreats, including data breaches, phishing and ransomware attacks, cybersecurity has become a critical component of risk management across industries.

In the past report released by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), more than 8 in 10 organisations experienced at least one cybersecurity incident in a year. 99% of these organisations suffered from at least one negative business impact. It could be a business disruption, data loss, reputation damage or financial loss.

Cybersecurity has become a core concern for individuals, businesses, and governments in Singapore and beyond. Understanding what cybersecurity is, why it matters is increasingly recognised as an essential skill in today's digital economy.

A growing workforce gap

With cybersecurity roles appearing on Singapore's Shortage Occupation List and employers continuing to face persistent talent gaps, demand for trained professionals remains strong.

Singapore's cybersecurity workforce expanded from approximately 4,000 professionals in 2016 to about 12,000 in 2022, representing a threefold increase over six years. Despite this growth, the sector continues to face a shortage of skilled talent, with demand for cybersecurity professionals expected to rise by an estimated 6% to 9% annually.

This challenge is also evident globally, where new cybersecurity roles are emerging faster than qualified professionals are entering the field. The shortage extends beyond the number of available workers. Organisations are seeking candidates who can combine technical expertise with practical experience, business understanding, problem-solving ability and strong communication skills.

Demand spans the full cybersecurity lifecycle. In Singapore, employers are seeking professionals for roles including security operations analyst, cyber defence incident responder, threat monitoring specialist, vulnerability assessment professional, penetration tester, security architect and security engineer.

The role of employers

Businesses should treat cybersecurity recruitment as part of workforce planning rather than as an emergency response to an open vacancy. A more sustainable approach involves identifying the organisation's most important systems, data assets and operational risks, then mapping those requirements to specific capabilities.

Hiring managers should also assess candidates on practical capability. A qualification may demonstrate commitment, but employers should look for evidence that applicants can investigate a problem, document findings, follow procedures and communicate recommendations clearly.

Why cybersecurity is worth learning for employees

Demand for cybersecurity talent in Singapore has increased significantly, with roles such as Digital Forensic Analyst, Incident Response Specialist and Cybersecurity Consultant regularly featured on job portals.

Employers are also more open to hiring mid-career switchers who can demonstrate relevant and up-to-date training. Some professionals from sectors such as operations, finance and customer service have successfully transitioned into cybersecurity roles, highlighting the value of transferable skills.

According to the recent ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study, education is the third most frequently cited pathway into a cybersecurity career. The report found that 38% of participants aged 21 to 29 entered the field through an IT-related pathway, while an equal proportion came through routes outside IT or cybersecurity education. These included career changes, professional certifications, self-directed learning, military experience, and internships or apprenticeships.

Practical tip for companies to get started

Course providers such as SIM Academy also offer structured programmes for mid-career professionals looking to transition into cybersecurity. One example is the SCTP in Cybersecurity: Network Security and Digital Forensics, developed in partnership with IBM.

With strong industry demand, structured learning pathways, and accessible funding support, a career switch into cybersecurity is a challenging but achievable goal.

Companies seeking cybersecurity talent and open to offering internships or employment to SCTP graduates can reach out to SIM Academy to explore partnership opportunities.

Introduced at Hong Kong FinTech Week, KY-AI™ brings a structured approach to AI oversight, aligned with the accountability, resilience and trust principles of the HKMA’s ART Framework.

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 2 November 2026 – iCOMPASS, the developer of ULTRA™, an AI-powered Compliance Operating System, today introduced KY-AI™ (Know Your Artificial Intelligence) to the Hong Kong market at Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026. The announcement follows the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's (HKMA) introduction of its ART Framework on 15 October, sharpening attention on how banks establish accountability, operational resilience and trust as artificial intelligence becomes more autonomous.

Financial institutions are moving beyond AI experiments towards tools that analyse sensitive data, recommend decisions and increasingly act across connected systems. Yet a basic governance question remains: can an institution identify where AI is operating, what it is permitted to do, who is accountable and whether its behaviour remains acceptable over time?

KY-AI™ turns these questions into a continuous, evidence-based governance process. Built around its Know–Approve–Test–Watch lifecycle, the solution enables financial institutions to identify and understand the AI systems they use, including third-party tools, assess their risks and potential impact, establish clear ownership and accountability, and ensure appropriate approvals and ongoing monitoring are in place.

As AI systems evolve, KY-AI™ enables institutions to track material changes, detect emerging risks and intervene when necessary. This transforms AI oversight from a one-time assessment into a continuous, evidence-based governance process that strengthens accountability and builds lasting trust in AI outcomes.

"The question is no longer simply whether a financial institution uses AI, but whether management truly understands what each AI system does, the risks involved, who is accountable and when intervention is needed," said Raymond Moh, CEO of iCOMPASS. "With KY-AI™, we are applying the same discipline of knowing your customer to knowing your artificial intelligence. By making AI oversight an ongoing, documented process rather than a one-off exercise, we help financial institutions build greater confidence and trust in how AI is used and the outcomes it delivers."

The introduction builds on iCOMPASS' 6-in-1 ULTRA KYC™ solution, which brings onboarding & identity verification, screening, customer due diligence, risk assessment, ongoing monitoring and change management into a connected, evidence-linked AML/KYC workflow. Having focused on making customer-risk decisions traceable, iCOMPASS is extending the same emphasis on clear ownership, documented decisions and lifecycle monitoring to AI governance.

Alongside the KY-AI™ introduction, iCOMPASS is collaborating with Cambridge Advisers Hong Kong under a Memorandum of Understanding to deliver digital compliance training through UltraLearn™. Cambridge Advisers Hong Kong provides regulatory training content while iCOMPASS supplies the learning platform powered by AI, including training records, assessments, reminders and CPT tracking. Courses cover areas including AML, cybersecurity, data protection and professional conduct.

iCOMPASS serves more than 100 financial institutions across the region and holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and a SOC 2 Type II attestation covering all five Trust Services Criteria.

Meet iCOMPASS at Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026, 2–3 November, Hall 5BC, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
