China expects the APEC Ministerial Meeting, co-chaired by its foreign minister and commerce minister via video link, to deliver positive outcomes and pave the way for the upcoming leaders' meeting, foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao were scheduled to co-chair the 37th APEC Ministerial Meeting via video conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

"As the host of APEC 2026, China attaches high importance to holding the APEC Ministerial Meeting. Taking into account all relevant factors, it has been decided that this year’s APEC Ministerial Meeting will be held via video conference to ensure optimal effects," Mao said.

"We are confident that with the concerted efforts of all parties, the Ministerial Meeting will achieve positive outcomes and make good preparations for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting," she added.

The 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is scheduled in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, from Nov 18 to 19, under the theme "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together".

The population of captive giant pandas in China has reached 830, with continued improvements in population genetic diversity, according to data released Tuesday at the 2026 Global Panda Partners Conference in Chengdu, the capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

In recent years, ecological corridor projects have reconnected 13 panda populations into the broader family, significantly boosting habitat connectivity.

More than 150 activities of giant pandas and other wildlife have been recorded within the corridor areas, showing interactions and breeding activities among wild populations increasingly common.

As an endemic flagship species for China and a global icon for biodiversity preservation, the giant panda remains a major draw worldwide, attracting more than one billion visitors.
