China has urged the UK to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs, and stop harboring and conniving with criminals and rioters that undermine China's national security.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks on Tuesday at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on the wanton slanders against Hong Kong affairs in the so-called six-monthly report by the UK.

"The UK's so-called report ignores facts and calls white black. It is a blatant interference in Hong Kong affairs which are China's internal affairs and violation of the principles of international law and basic norms in international relations. China deplores and firmly opposes it," Lin said.

"Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the central government has fully, faithfully and firmly implemented the principles of One Country, Two Systems, Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong and a high degree of autonomy. The Law on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Safeguarding National Security Ordinance have given Hong Kong a strong shield for national security. Thanks to the national security legislation, Hong Kong residents’ rights and freedoms granted by law are under better protection. They also enjoy a stronger sense of gain, happiness and security. Hong Kong is better positioned than ever to fully focus on economic growth, its stature as an international financial, shipping and trade center will be further consolidated and its development outlook will be even brighter," he said.

"Hong Kong affairs are purely China's domestic affair. It's been 27 years since Hong Kong's return and the UK must respect that fact. The UK also needs to stop interfering in China's domestic affairs and stop being a haven to the people who sought to undermine China's national security and stability in Hong Kong," said the spokesman.

Chinese and Vietnamese coast guards completed their first joint patrol in the Beibu Gulf for 2024, China Coast Guard (CCG) said on Tuesday.

The joint patrol, which started on Saturday and wrapped up on Monday, is the 27th joint patrol conducted by the two countries' maritime law enforcement agencies since 2006.

During the three-day joint patrol, Chinese and Vietnamese coast guard ships observed and inspected fishing boats from both countries while patrolling along planned routes in the waters.

Under current cooperation mechanism, Chinese and Vietnamese coast guards conduct joint patrols in the Beibu Gulf twice a year, creating a model of maritime law enforcement in the South China Sea.

The joint patrol has contributed to protecting fishery resources in the Beibu Gulf, maintaining the fishery production order, cracking down on maritime crimes, and safeguarding regional security and stability, according to the CCG.

The CCG said it will continue to enhance exchanges and practical cooperation with the Vietnamese side to properly handle maritime emergencies and jointly maintain maritime security and stability, so as to make positive contributions to the building of China-Vietnam community with a shared future.
