Russia on Thursday claimed control of one strategic town in the Donetsk region, while the Ukrainian side reported a grim situation on the frontlines.
Russia's armed forces have taken control of the town of Ugledar (or Vuhledar) in Ukraine's Donetsk region, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
"As a result of decisive actions by the Vostok (east) troop group, the settlement of Ugledar was liberated," the ministry said in a statement.
The town is considered strategically important for both Russian and Ukrainian forces due to its elevated position and location at the intersection of the eastern and southern fronts, making it significant for supply lines on both sides.
Over the past day, Russia's armed forces carried out strikes on targets including Ukrainian military personnel and equipment, as well as drone production facilities.
In addition, the country's air defense forces shot down 144 Ukrainian drones, said the ministry.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported a total of 73 combat clashes on the same day.
The situation on the front remained serious, especially in the directions of Pokrovsk and Kurakhove, according to the General Staff.
The Ukrainian army successfully repelled 18 of 20 Russian offensives in the Pokrovsk region, it added.
