The International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) will hold its World Congress in China in October, marking the first time the organization has convened its congress in China since its establishment 127 years ago.

The event will take place in Hangzhou, the capital of east China's Zhejiang province, from October 19th to the 22nd.

The congress, themed "Balanced Protection of Intellectual Property and Innovative Development," is expected to welcome over 2,000 delegates from 92 countries and regions, a record high for the event, officials said at the press conference.

The gathering emphasizes professionalism and diversity and will feature over 30 seminars and forums.

Th congress will give China the opportunity to showcase its latest advancements and historic achievements in intellectual property examination and protection.

"We will focus on discussing four key draft resolutions on intellectual property, covering patents, trademarks, copyrights, and rights enforcement. This event marks a milestone in China's intellectual property development and a new starting point for China's deeper involvement in global IP governance. It is bound to greatly enhance cooperation between China and the international IP community, contribute Chinese wisdom to the construction of a global intellectual property governance pattern featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits," said Yu Jianlong, vice chairman of the CCPIT.

AIPPI was one of the first non-governmental international IP organizations ever established. The AIPPI World Congress is held annually and has become one of the most well-attended and influential gatherings in the field of IP.

The China Coast Guard (CCG) said it conducted a law-enforcement patrol in waters east of China's Taiwan Island Monday in response to Japan and the Philippines' unilateral announcement of maritime delimitation talks in the area.

The move by Japan and the Philippines seriously infringes upon China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, and the patrol was a necessary action taken against it, said Jiang Lue, a spokesperson for the CCG.

"We urge Japan and the Philippines to immediately cease all illegal actions that undermine China's sovereignty, rights and interests," Jiang said.

The CCG will continue to strengthen control over relevant waters and take measures to safeguard China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, the spokesperson added.
