Twelveth session of 14th NPC Standing Committee holds 2nd plenary meeting

The 12th session of the 14th National People's Congress Standing Committee held its second plenary meeting in Beijing on Tuesday morning.

Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, attended the meeting and Xiao Jie, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the meeting.

Lawmakers heard reports on the inspection of the implementation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Law and the Social Insurance Law. They also heard a report on financial work by Pan Gongsheng, Governor of the People's Bank of China.

Lawmakers deliberated the State Council's comprehensive report on the management of state-owned assets in 2023 and heard the special report on the management of administrative and public-service state-owned assets in 2023 and the supervision and research report on the management of administrative and public-service state-owned assets.

They reviewed work reports on developing world-class universities and strong disciplines with Chinese features and on the country's efforts in desertification prevention and control.

Lawmakers also heard reports on the administrative trial work of the people's courts and on the administrative prosecution work of the people's procuratorates.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, weakened 18 pips to 6.9025 against the U.S. dollar Friday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
