Chinese President Xi Jinping was warmly welcomed by people in Lima, the capital of Peru, as his motorcade moved from the airport to his hotel on Thursday.

Representatives from Chinese communities, institutions and students, together with local residents, waved Chinese and Peruvian national flags, chanting and cheering to welcome the Chinese president as his motorcade passed.

Xi arrived in Lima on Thursday to attend the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and pay a state visit to the Latin American country at the invitation of Peruvian President Dina Boluarte.

The 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is scheduled on Friday and Saturday in Lima.
