China's gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow 5 percent this year, hitting the full-year economic growth target smoothly, a senior official said in Beijing on Saturday.

Han Wenxiu, executive deputy director of the Office of the Central Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs, told an economic conference that the world's second-largest economy is expected to contribute close to 30 percent of global growth.

According to Han, this year is a critical year for achieving the goals and missions set for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).

China had faced increased external pressure and internal difficulties in economic development, while the overall economic operation has been stable, with progress made during the year, Han said.

"The major projected targets for economic and social development will be achieved smoothly. China's economic growth is expected to reach around 5 percent this year, and contribute nearly 30 percent to global economic growth. Employment and prices in China remain stable, and the balance of international payments is also basically achieved. China's foreign exchange reserves remain above 3.2 trillion U.S. dollars," said Han.

At the annual conference on China's economy 2024-2025, Han also stated that the risks in key areas have been addressed in an orderly and effective way, and positive changes have been seen in the real estate market since October.

In face of some new situations and difficulties in China's economic operation in the second and third quarters of this year, the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee has deployed a package of policies to boost confidence, and the economy has significantly rebounded, Han stated.

"Risks in key areas have been resolved in an orderly and effective manner, and there have been positive changes in China's real estate market. Since October, both transaction volume and prices have shown positive signals. Risks in local government debt and small and medium-sized financial institutions are also being effectively relieved and controlled," Han said.

China has established more than 5,500 green mines at or above the provincial level, marking positive progress in the country's green mining development, an official from the Ministry of Natural Resources said at a news conference in Beijing on Tuesday ahead of this year's World Earth Day.

According to Dong Qingji, deputy director general of the Ministry of Natural Resources' department of mineral resources protection and supervision, green mining requirements have been written into the Mineral Resources Law and the Ecological Environment Code, providing strong legal backing. A working system featuring government guidance, departmental coordination, enterprise leadership and public supervision is now largely in place.

China is accelerating the construction of green mines and will organize the selection of a new batch of national-level green mines. Currently, there are over 1,000 national-level green mines and more than 4,500 provincial-level green mines in the country.

Looking ahead, the ministry will continue to promote the construction and operation of all newly built mines in accordance with green mine standards, while speeding up the green transformation and upgrading of existing operating mines. For mines that have not yet initiated green transition, they are required to launch green mine construction as soon as possible, fulfill their obligations for ecological restoration in mining areas, and strengthen ecological restoration and governance in these areas.
