Yabuli Ski Resort, venue of snow competitions of the upcoming 9th Asian Winter Games, entered a trial run on Wednesday with 30 days to go until the opening ceremony.
Located in Yabuli Town, Harbin City in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the ski resort will hold 32 events of the upcoming Asian Winter Games including alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and biathlon.
As the ski resort is now on trial operation, many skiing fans have come to the resort to experience the international standard tracks.
Built up 50 years ago, the Yabuli Ski Resort also served as the venue of snow competitions in 1996 for the third Asian Winter Games held in Harbin. Overcoming the difficulties of thin snow because of little snowfall, the ski resort made artificial snow, and finally passed the inspection of the International Ski Federation, providing a professional venue for the event in 1996.
So far, the total amount of artificial snow made at the competition venues and training venues is about 700,000 to 800,000 cubic meters, the height of the snow will exceed 100 meters if it is piled up on a 7,000-square-meter football field.
A special team of electricians has been dispatched to the ski resort to guarantee the power supply, and the electricians can quickly reach the ski resort's power lines, transformers and other power facilities through skiing.
The four-member inspection team is part of State Grid's innovative approach to maintain power supply at the Yabuli Ski Resort.
The Yabuli Media Center (YMC) for the 2025 Asian Winter Games went into a trial run 30 days ahead of the opening ceremony.
The venue at Yabuli is also one of the two media centers for the Games. The YMC includes the Yabuli Press Center and the Broadcasting Center, which will serve accredited journalists of print media and all rights broadcasters, who will be covering snow sports during the Games.
According to organisers, the YMC will provide customized services. There will be dining halls in different sizes that meet different culinary needs, and a heated zone was also set at the center to provide media workers a warm working place.
The 9th Asian Winter Games will be held from Feb 7 to 14 in Harbin, reputed as the "Ice City" of China for its extra-low temperatures in winter and the annual tradition of displaying extravagant ice sculptures.
Over the course of the 12 competition days, athletes from various Asian countries and regions will compete in six major events, 11 sub-events, and 64 disciplines.
