SCO secretary general extends Spring Festival greetings to Chinese people

The secretary-general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conveyed heartfelt greetings to Chinese friends on behalf of the organization as the Spring Festival is just around the corner.

SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev sent the wishes via a video in both Russian and Chinese.

"Today, just before the Chinese Lunar New Year, the Spring Festival, I, on behalf of all the staff of the SCO Secretariat, extend our warmest wishes to China. May you all enjoy good health, a delight mood, and wonderful moments with your family. In the coming Lunar New Year, I hope you gain happiness and success. Dear Chinese friends, I wish you a joyful Spring Festival and all the best!" Yermekbayev said.

Yermekbayev was appointed Secretary-General of the SCO for the period of 2025-2027 last year.

The Spring Festival, which falls on Jan 29 this year, marks the start of the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year and is the country's grandest traditional festival.

U.S. dollar ticks up

 

The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.35 percent to 98.298 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1741 U.S. dollars from 1.1775 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3532 dollars from 1.3629 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.59 Japanese yen, higher than 157.21 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.7808 Swiss francs from 0.7782 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3701 Canadian dollars from 1.3673 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 9.2926 Swedish kronor from 9.2235 Swedish kronor.
