China urged South Korea to stop smearing and attacking the country, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday. China strongly disapproves of and firmly opposes the malicious hype surrounding China-related issues by certain individuals in South Korea, said Lin in response to the South Korean leader once again mentioning China-related issues in his statement at the impeachment trial held by the Constitutional Court.

"Days after the martial law was imposed at the end of last year, the South Korean side made similar remarks and China has made clear its solemn position. China is committed to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and believes that the South Korean people have the wisdom and capability to handle their domestic issues. We strongly deplore and firmly oppose certain forces and personnel in South Korea who ill-intentionally propagated China-related issues for political gains," Lin said.

"Throwing mud at one's neighbor will not solve one's own problem. The sound and steady development of China-South Korea relations serves the common interests of the two countries. We once again urge relevant individuals in South Korea to stop fabricating and peddling false narratives about China, stop vilifying and attacking China," said Lin.
