Five avalanches descended on a road section in Motuo, a county in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, burying 45 vehicles and trapping 115 people.
Avalanches started to hit a section near the Galongla Tunnel entrance Sunday noon, burying approximately five kilometers of the road and causing traffic disruption.
In response, local police officers walked to avalanche sites and transferred trapped travelers to the nearby police station or tourist service centers. They also provided travelers with essential supplies such as hot water and food.
The police officers also worked with road maintenance specialists to carry out cleanup, coordinate vehicle evacuation, and assisted emergency response departments in searching for any remaining trapped individuals.
After a seven-hour intense rescue effort, all 115 trapped individuals and 45 vehicles were safely evacuated, and traffic on the avalanche-hit road section was on the whole restored.
