China will continue to champion international fairness and justice and safeguard peace and stability of the world along with all countries around the world, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted the significant progress for Chinese diplomacy in the past year and pledged continued efforts to promote peace and justice in face of ongoing international challenges.

"The year of 2024 saw profound changes in the international landscape, and also, remarkable progress in China's reform and development. Under the leadership and guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping, China's diplomacy achieved significant progress, fostered a favorable external environment for high-quality development, brought much-needed stability to a changing and turbulent world, and made new, solid strides in building a community with a shared future for mankind," Wang said.

He then noted that the international situation is still full of challenges in the year of 2025, but the mission of China's diplomacy remains unchanged.

"We will continue to work with all countries to uphold what is right, steer the direction of our era, defend international fairness and justice, and safeguard world peace and stability," said Wang.

The multilateral system is "under attack" amid global turmoil, President of the 80th UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock warned in her remarks on Wednesday.

In her briefing on the priorities for the resumed 80th Session of the General Assembly, the UNGA president noted that the current multilateral system does not collapse all in a sudden, but "crumbles piece by piece" in divisions, compromises, and lack of political commitment.

The president called all the UN member states to defend the UN Charter and international law and promote cross-regional cooperation.

She also urged to push forward the work of the UNGA on certain critical issues with a strong majority, rather than an absolute consensus among all member states. Such act is not a failure of multilateralism, but "an affirmation of it," she said.

The foundational principles of the institution should not be eroded by appeasement, she said, calling the member states to show courage, leadership, and responsibility at the UN's "critical make-or-break moment."

"The UN needs you. Your support, your leadership, your principle, stand, your cross-regional cooperation, if we are to preserve and modernize this institution, if we are to make it, rather than break it," she said.
