Russia attacks Ukrainian targets, Ukraine launches counterattack in Dzerzhinsk

Russia said on Sunday that it had captured a settlement the Donetsk region and hit multiple Ukrainian targets, while Ukraine said that it had launched counterattack in Donetsk's Dzerzhinsk.

Russian forces have gained control of the settlement of Sribne in the Donetsk region, the Russian Defense Ministry said in its report on Sunday.

At the same time, the Russian troops targeted 138 Ukrainian positions, mostly military airport infrastructure, training facilities for drone operators, drone production workshops and warehouses. Meanwhile, the ministry said that the Russian air defense forces successfully shot down 224 Ukrainian drones.

Also on Friday, a spokesperson for Ukraine's Khortytsia Group of Forces stated that Ukrainian troops successfully launched a counterattack in the Donetsk region near Toretsk (referred to as Dzerzhinsk in Russian).

The spokesperson emphasized that Russian forces have not established control over the area, and Ukrainian operations in the direction of Toretsk are currently quite effective.

The death toll in the war-torn Gaza Strip has risen to 71,455 since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted on Oct 7, 2023, with the number of injuries reaching 171,347, Gaza's health authorities said on Friday.

In the past 24 hours, hospitals in Gaza received 14 more bodies, including 12 new deaths and two bodies recovered from the rubble, in addition to 18 new injuries as of 11:00 on Friday, the authorities said.

Since the ceasefire agreement took effect on Oct 11, 2025, Israeli attacks have killed 463 people and wounded 1,269 others, according to the Gaza health authorities.
