China urges Canada to provide with concrete actions a fair, non-discriminatory, and predictable environment for normal trade and cooperation between the two countries' enterprises, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.
Canada has requested World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute consultations with China over additional import duties on certain agricultural and fishery products from Canada.
In response, China has taken countermeasures, which are reasonable and legal, according to Guo.
"The Canadian side has ignored China's repeated admonitions and insisted on taking discriminatory restrictive measures on certain products imported from China, which seriously violated WTO rules, disrupted the normal trade order, and seriously infringed China's legitimate rights and interests. China's necessary countermeasures are completely legitimate, reasonable and legal. We urge Canada to take concrete actions to correct its wrong practices and provide a fair, non-discriminatory, and predictable environment for enterprises of the two countries to carry out normal trade and cooperation," said Guo.
