China-Vietnam cooperation brings stability, certainty to turbulent world: Xi

The peace and development of China and Vietnam and their deepening cooperation bring stability and certainty to a world fraught with turbulence and change, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in Vietnam's capital city Hanoi on Monday.

Xi, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during his talks with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee.

Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Vietnam, Xi said the two countries have set an example of solidarity and cooperation among socialist countries.

"This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam. Over the past 75 years, no matter how the international situation has changed, the two sides have supported each other in their struggle for national independence and liberation, joined hands in the cause of socialist construction, and forged ahead in their respective modernization processes, setting an example of solidarity and cooperation among socialist countries," said Xi.

"In the face of the current changing and turbulent international situation, China and Vietnam adhere to peace and development and deepen friendly cooperation, which brings precious stability and certainty to the world," the Chinese president added.

Xi arrived in Hanoi earlier in the day for a two-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong.

During the visit, Xi is also scheduled to meet with Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

Vietnam is the first leg of Xi's current three-nation Southeast Asia tour, which will also take him to Malaysia and Cambodia for state visits from Tuesday to Friday, at the invitation of King of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim, and King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 20 pips to 7.0108 against the U.S. dollar Monday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
