China, as the host country of the New Development Bank (NDB), will continue to steadfastly support the bank's operations and development, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday in Shanghai during a meeting with the bank chief Dilma Rousseff.

On Tuesday morning, Xi visited the NDB and met with Rousseff, president of the NDB.

"It gives me great pleasure to reunite with my old friend Ms Rousseff. Over the years, I have followed with keen interest the development of the New Development Bank, witnessing its remarkable evolution into an emerging force within the international financial system and a model of the Global South cooperation, which fills me with particular gratification. Having worked in Shanghai myself, I can attest to this city's distinctive character, its openness, inclusiveness and innovative spirit. Going forward, as the bank's host country, China will always support the operations and development of the New Development Bank," said Xi during the meeting.

"It is with deep honor that we welcome Your Excellency President Xi Jinping today to the headquarters of the New Development Bank. In the most challenging times for the bank, the Chinese government has been a decisive partner. Therefore, President Xi Jinping, I thank your excellency for the support of the Chinese government and your firm leadership in favor of multilateralism and a more just, safe and peaceful world," said Rousseff.
