New Development Bank (NDB) President Dilma Rousseff thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for his steadfast support for the institution during his visit to the NDB headquarters in Shanghai on Tuesday.

During his visit, Xi congratulated Rousseff on her reelection as president of the NDB, and called the bank "a pioneering initiative for the unity and self-improvement of the Global South."

He also noted that as the bank's host country, China will always support the operations and development of the NDB. China is willing to strengthen project cooperation with the bank and focus on green, innovative and sustainable development to achieve more results, he added.

During an interview with China Media Group (CMG), Rousseff hailed the meeting as a "great success," emphasizing Xi's crucial role in the NDB's progress.

"The meeting of the bank with President Xi Jinping was a great success. President Xi Jinping has always provided support and has given significant help to the bank in difficult times. He designated this decade as a golden decade. In this decade, we approved 120 projects with a total commitment of 40 billion U.S. dollars. So I have to openly acknowledge that this support for us has been essential. It was essential for the bank in the past, it is essential in the present, and for us to build the second golden decade," she said.

Rouseff said that despite the volatile situation in the world, the Chinese government has resolutely stood up for the interests of the Global South, supported multilateralism, defended international fairness and justice, and set an example for the international community.

China's 42nd Antarctic scientific expedition are now in full swing around Zhongshan Station, a Chinese research base in Antarctica.

The expedition team arrived at the region aboard China's icebreakers, Xuelong and Xuelong 2, which also handled supply transportation for the mission.

The two icebreakers have delivered approximately 2,000 tons of supplies to Zhongshan Station to support scientific exploration.

The 42nd Antarctic expedition will span 19 months, aiming to advance major scientific research and international collaboration in polar conditions.

The expedition team set sail from Shanghai on Nov 1, with the mission expected to conclude in May 2026 when both icebreakers return to China.
