China is willing to enhance cooperation with Spain in multiple fields, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

According to Spanish media reports, the Spanish government has released the Foreign Action Strategy 2025-2028, stressing the need to deepen Spain-China comprehensive strategic partnership.

Commenting on the issue, Lin Jian, the spokesman, said at a daily press briefing that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's visit to China in April yielded fruitful results, with cooperation documents signed involving multiple fields.

"China appreciates the importance the Spanish government attaches to developing its relations with China and its continuous effort of advancing practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between our two countries. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez paid a successful visit to China not long ago. The two sides jointly issued the Action Plan for Strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and proposed to build a more strategically resilient and dynamic comprehensive strategic partnership. China and Spain also signed multiple cooperation documents on economic and trade ties, education and science and technology, and achieved major cooperation outcomes in new energy fields, including electric vehicles and battery," Lin said.

"China stands ready to work with Spain to continue deepening open cooperation, especially practical cooperation in such fields as green development, artificial intelligence and digital economy, so as to bring more benefit to the two peoples and add more impetus to China-EU relations," said the spokesman.

Voting in Chile's presidential runoff election opened on Sunday, with leftist candidate Jeannette Jara facing Republican contender Jose Antonio Kast.

According to Chile's Electoral Service, voting began at 08:00 local time (1100 GMT) and will end at 18:00 (2100 GMT) the same day, with more than 15 million registered voters eligible to cast ballots.

In this round of voting, the candidate who receives the most votes will win the election. The president-elect will take office on March 11 next year.

No candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round on Nov. 16, meaning Jara and Kast, who won 26.85 percent and 23.92 percent, respectively, advanced to the runoff.

The two candidates have focused on improving social security, tackling illegal immigration and other issues in a bid to win over voters.
