A number of residents in Russia's St. Petersburg have shared their thoughts on the relationship between China and Russia, as the two countries commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.
At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a four-day state visit to Russia, during which he will attend the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), which include a military parade scheduled for Friday in Moscow's Red Square.
In an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), the locals in St. Petersburg shared their insights on their impressions of China, the cooperation between the two countries, and their expectations for future bilateral ties.
They expressed their appreciation for China's rich history, economic strength, and its people.
"I think China is a vast country with a long and great history. Today, it is also an economic powerhouse. I am very glad that we have established a friendly relationship with our neighbor," said Mikhail Vinokurov, a local worker.
"China is an ancient, beautiful, and powerful country," said a teacher named Nina.
"I really like China. It is a magnificent country with outstanding people," said Alexander Vasilievich, a retiree.
When asked about areas of cooperation between China and Russia, the residents pointed to several sectors, including education, arts, science, and the economy.
"When it comes to education, the exchanges between China and Russia are very close. The two countries also frequently collaborate in the field of group performances. Our performers often travel to China for performances, while Chinese performers have also achieved significant success in Russia. We are always eager to watch their performances," said Vasilievich.
"I've heard that China and Russia have cooperation plans in the fields of science and machinery," said Nina.
As the economic ties between China and Russia continue to grow, the residents are keenly aware of the importance of this partnership.
"I know that there is a close economic cooperation relationship between China and Russia, and Russia exports a large amount of resources to China," said Vinokurov.
Moreover, the residents value the people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and express optimism about deepening ties in the future.
"The friendship between China and Russia is deep and rich. Chinese friends really like Russians, and Russians appreciate the honesty and hospitality of their Chinese friends. It can be said that a warm, friendly, and solid relationship has been established between China and Russia," said Olga, a project manager.
"We see many students from China studying in St. Petersburg. They are all very happy, cheerful, and polite, and it is very pleasant to interact with them. Of course, language barriers always exist. Many Russian students going to China have also found good job opportunities, and their experiences in China are very positive. I believe there is a lot of potential for development in this area," said Nina.
"I hope more Chinese friends will visit Russia. I also hope that more Chinese people will learn the Russian language and explore Russian culture. Meanwhile, we will also work to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture," said Vinokurov.
