Xi vows enduring friendship, partnership with Latin American and Caribbean countries

China will remain a good friend and partner of Latin American and Caribbean countries, said Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday.

Xi made the remarks when addressing the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum in Beijing.

Quoting an old Chinese poem, "The joy of life lies in having bosom friends," and a Latin American proverb, "Having a true friend means having a rare treasure," Xi said that regardless of changes in the international landscape, China will always be a good friend and good partner of Latin American and Caribbean countries.

"Let us join hands and move forward shoulder to shoulder on our respective modernization journeys, and work together to write a new chapter in building a China-LAC community with a shared future," Xi said.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 20 pips to 7.0108 against the U.S. dollar Monday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
