Cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries is full of promise even in today's volatile world, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said on Monday.
Rodriguez, who was in Beijing to attend Tuesday's Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum, highlighted the fruitful exchanges between China and Latin American and Caribbean nations during an exclusive interview with China Central Television (CCTV) prior to the meeting.
"China, without a doubt, has established unique and distinctive ties with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean—bonds that are widely appreciated by the public and that also contribute to our own development. This would not have been possible without the vigorous and extraordinary development of the People's Republic of China, its enormous contribution to international peace and security, and its presence as a major global power that plays a key role in maintaining the world’s balance," he said.
China is now Latin America's second-largest trading partner, and the region has become the second-largest destination for overseas Chinese investment, with 600.8 billion U.S. dollars invested by the end of 2023.
The cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries is also expanding into new sectors, such as renewable energy, digital technology, space sciences, and transnational e-commerce, driven by successful bilateral forums within the framework of the China-CELAC Forum.
Emphasizing that the China-CELAC Forum is forward-looking and full of potential, Rodriguez said the future of cooperation between China and the region remains bright despite global headwinds.
"It is a mechanism with great potential for the future. And I am convinced that despite the turbulence currently occurring on the international stage and the dysfunction of the international order, there is a clear and broad outlook for the future development of ties between China and our region," said the Cuban foreign minister.
