A delegation led by Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) John Lee Ka-chiu concluded a two-day visit to Qatar on Monday, with both sides vowing to further enhance trade and investment cooperation.
The business delegation comprised over 50 professionals and leaders of enterprises from the HKSAR and the Chinese mainland.
During an event themed "Partnering for Success - Hong Kong as a 'Super Connector' and 'Super Value-Adder'," Lee said the HKSAR and Qatar, as regional economic engines in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, respectively, have great potential for trade and business cooperation.
Lee underlined the need to foster greater synergy between the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, as both sides are committed to embracing economic diversification and achieving high-quality development through all-round cooperation.
"During the visit, the delegation showcased Hong Kong's strengths in connecting the mainland and the rest of the world under the principle of 'one country, two systems', Hong Kong's role as a 'super connector', 'super value-adder' and a bridge for inbound and outbound investment. It also demonstrated Hong Kong's complementary advantages and synergistic effects with the mainland to explore more business opportunities and provide all-round supply chain services for the Middle East and the world," Lee said.
During the visit, Lee witnessed the signing of 35 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements spanning trade, investment, technology, legal co-operation, and financial, banking and capital markets, among others.
Qatar is currently HK's third-largest trading partner in the Middle East.
