China has maintained a high level of openness to the world and remains committed to advancing mutually beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
The United Nations on Thursday released the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2025, warning that rising tariffs and continued trade policy uncertainty are likely to undermine global economic prospects, posing significant challenges for the international community —particularly for developing economies.
According to the report, global economic growth is now projected to slow to 2.4 percent in 2025, down from 2.9 percent in 2024 and 0.4 percentage points lower than the forecast made in January. The report emphasizes that policy coordination and international cooperation are especially crucial for stabilizing the global economy and advancing sustainable development.
"At present, multilateralism and free trade are facing serious challenges. Facts have repeatedly shown that economic globalization is a historical trend, openness and cooperation are the prevailing trend of our times, and multilateralism is an inevitable choice. In the current context, all countries should uphold the multilateral trading system and international economic and trade rules, maintain an open and cooperative international environment, and work toward sustained development and shared prosperity. The more risks the global economy faces, the more it needs to confront challenges with openness and resolve differences through cooperation," Lin said.
"China has always upheld a high level of openness to the world, with a policy environment that is transparent, stable, and predictable. We are committed to fostering a world-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized for businesses from around the globe. We aim to turn our vast market into one shared by the world and to promote mutually beneficial and inclusive economic globalization. An open China will continue to bring opportunities to the world," he said.
