China's imports and exports of goods sustained growth in April despite drastic changes of external environment, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) spokesperson Fu Linghui said Monday in Beijing.
China's total value of imports and exports of goods was 3.8391 trillion yuan in April, up by 5.6 percent year on year, Fu said at a press conference. The value of exports was 2.2645 trillion yuan, up by 9.3 percent, Fu said.
In the first four months of the year, the total value of imports and exports of goods was 14.1389 trillion yuan, up by 2.4 percent year on year.
China's imports and exports with the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the countries jointly building the Belt and Road have accelerated in the first four months, according to the NBS.
From January to April, the total import and export value between China and the ASEAN increased by 9.2 percent year-on-year, which was 2.1 percentage points higher than that in the first quarter.
China's trade of goods with the countries jointly building the Belt and Road increased by 3.9 percent, accelerating by 1.7 percentage points.
Fu said the import and export of China's private trade enterprises have grown rapidly in the first four months, with the export of mechanical and electrical products showing a notable growing trend.
The spokesperson said China's international trade of goods will continue to grow due to the significant reduction of tariffs between China and the U.S. and China's firm determination to expand its opening up.
"In the next stage, the significant reduction in tariffs between China and the U.S. will be conducive to the growth of trade between the two sides and the recovery of the world economy. The megatrend of international cooperation leading to all-win outcome will not change. China's firm commitment to expanding its opening up will not change either. China's steady progress in trade diversification and the continuous effectiveness of China's policies promoting foreign trade will continue to support stable development of foreign trade," Fu said.
