China's top legislator Zhao Leji held talks with the chairperson of the National Assembly (Mejlis) of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, in Beijing on Thursday.

Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said in the meeting that China stands ready to work with Turkmenistan to implement important consensuses reached by leaders of the two countries and deepen the building of a China-Turkmenistan community with a shared future.

Zhao expressed China's appreciation for Turkmenistan's firm support on issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, and human rights. He reaffirmed China's continued support for Turkmenistan in maintaining its national independence, sovereignty, and security, and for Turkmenistan's policy of permanent neutrality.

Zhao said China looks forward to accelerating the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with Turkmenistan's strategy of reviving the Great Silk Road, enhancing cooperation in areas of connectivity, agriculture, culture, tourism, and education, jointly promoting the implementation of the three global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping and practicing true multilateralism.

Zhao stressed that China's NPC stands ready to work with Turkmenistan's Mejlis to deepen exchanges on experiences regarding legislative work, supervision, and governance, and create a favorable legal environment for practical cooperation between the two countries.

Gulmanova noted that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and China has flourished across various areas under the strategic guidance of the two countries' leaders.

She said the Mejlis is willing to deepen friendly exchanges with the NPC and contribute to furthering the bilateral relations through legislative cooperation.
