The Chinese government attaches great importance to safeguarding the lawful rights and interests of workers, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday, in response to a question on Chinese company BYD in Brazil.

The remarks came following media reports that Brazilian labor prosecutors are suing Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD.

Mao said, "As we stressed more than once, the Chinese government attaches great importance to safeguarding the lawful rights and interests of workers, and asks Chinese companies to do business in accordance with laws and regulations."

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 20 pips to 7.0108 against the U.S. dollar Monday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
