The upcoming China-U.S. trade meetings in London have drawn public attention in China, where many hope the discussions will yield a long-term, mutually beneficial agreement.

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng is leading a delegation in the British capital for talks with U.S. officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

At the invitation of the U.K. government, He, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, is visiting the U.K. from June 8 to 13. He is set to hold the first meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism with the U.S. side during the visit.

Many people who check the stock market in downtown Shanghai are keeping a close eye on the twists and turns of the trade talks. And they have high hopes for the future.

"I believe both sides will reach a long-term agreement. This is an inevitable trend. In the long run, win-win cooperation is the only option for everyone," said Chen Yu, a Shanghai resident who works in the financial industry.

"From a broader perspective, I think we should aim for mutual understanding on the basis of respecting each other's sovereignty. The two sides may see things from different angles, but if we sit down and talk, there's nothing that can't be discussed," said Yang Kai, a man from Beijing.

After months of heightened rhetoric, it's hoped these talks will lead to agreements on a range of issues. With China and the U.S. trying to press the reset button on their relationship, all eyes now on how the markets respond.
