A panda cub is seen politely cooperating during an essential health exam in recently released footage from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
The archive footage captures panda Ya Zhu, who is now 9 years old, sitting politely on the lap of a keeper while a medical examiner takes her body temperature and enjoys a playful high-five with the well-behaved cub.
Additional footage was released showing Ya Zhu lounging lazily on a wooden platform, once again displaying her relaxed attitude.
Born on June 20, 2016 to mother Ya Li alongside twin sister Ya Yun, Ya Zhu represents the base's multigenerational breeding success.
The Chengdu base is a world-renowned center for the ex-situ conservation of giant pandas. It also serves as a hub for scientific research, public education and ecotourism. The institution is internationally recognized for its efforts to protect and breed giant pandas, red pandas and other endangered wildlife species native to China.
