China urges the United States to adhere to World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, and to work with China to promote the stable and sustainable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations, said He Yadong, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, in Beijing on Thursday.
He made the remarks at a regular press briefing while answering a relevant question, noting that China's position against unilateral tariff increases is consistent.
The spokesman said that from June 9 to 10, the economic and trade teams of China and the United States held the first meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism in London.
"At the first meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism, the two sides discussed and reached principled agreement on the implementation of the consensus reached by the two heads of state in their phone call on June 5 and the consensus framework of the Geneva talks, and made new progress in resolving the economic and trade concerns of both sides," he said.
"China has always opposed unilateral tariff measures. We urge the United States to abide by WTO rules and work with China under the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation to promote the stable and sustainable development of bilateral economic and trade relations," the spokesman said.
